Members MightyBricklayer
how's it sound? any chance we could see the rest of your metal-as-hell kit? m/
Members dreamrealm
It isn't any louder than that "same snare" with brass or maple shell, but it cuts, and great crack too. My kit isn't so metal-as-hell kit......... YET 'cause my two "floor" rack is still in local post office but there's one pic: those are pearl world series early 90's ( i guess ) maple/mahogany/maple shells, 10x10, 12x10, 13x11 and 16x16 toms, bd's are 22x16

I actually prefer the angles of your toms to the 'way tilted' way some people mount stuff. You're absolutely right, however, it's your kit and as long as you can play it, go for it. I just like my cymbals mounted somewhere between my shoulders and my forehead. What works for others may be different. Obviously, the closer and tighter together you put stuff, the faster you'll be able to get around the kit. I used to put my cymbals higher, but the big arm movement was inefficient for me. Members stapes2260
doesn't cutting vents in a shell and using a thick stave shell completely negate the concept of using a free floating snare system? Though I guess it does make things easier if you don't want to drill lug holes.

Members JSimms
You play with your cymbals that high all the time or you put them that high to do that recording? I had an engineer convince me one time that they can get a better sound by putting them that high. I can see how putting them that high would help isolate them, but I don't know about a better sound...

Lol yeah, I mean, how DOES he reach them? It doesn't seem possible without jumping off the stool everytime, or unless his stool is extremely high. Or maybe he uses brooms for sticks. Looks like he should replace those 2 crashes with overhead mic's.
