hey everyone im just about done making a wooden drum, its a rectangular prism (i think thats wat u call it haha) about 40cm x 20cm x 20cm with different lengths cut into the top so that depending where u hit it you (should) get a different tone.

anyway im not sure where would be best to cut the sound hole, into the side or into the end, its just goin to be a circle about 13cm in diameter. so should i put that in the end (20x20) where it would take up most of the end, or in the middle of the side (40x20) where it would take up less room relative to the length.....

its a gift thats sposed to be given in about 6 hours so any replies would be appreciated :) thanks,

mick.

O I got ya. I think those usually have the

hole on the bottom. ( opposite where you would strike it)

I Have seen one with a hole on the side. But it was a really small hole.

I would think that if you put too big a hole that there might be an audible difference in the the areas closer to the hole side.

Mainly cause when struck it would vent differently than ones farther away.

So if going on the side just keep it small I would think.
