Members rikshaw
sorry if this is a stupid question but what are they for? when would someone want to use them? thx rick
Members Zeromus-X
They'll ease the stress on the cymbals and prevent keyholing from the inner rim of the cymbal hitting the stand, from what I understand. But what do I know, I'm from the same forum you're from!
Members Old Steve
IMHO, they're most useful on China cymbals that are mounted bell down (upside down). Whenever you flip a cymbal over, the center of gravity is above the wingnut, so the cybmal will always be leaning against the rod/wingnut, putting the hole under constant stress. By using a spring, you take the stress off the hole and essentially have a "shock absorber" protecting the hole and bell. IMHO, it's a much more elegant and safer alternative than just packing a bunch of extra non-recoiling felt washers into the space. For cymbals mounted bell up (normal), they aren't as necessary because if you leave the wing nuts a little loose, the cymbal will be free to move when you hit it.
