who here sings while playing? Do you find it hard when doing fills? I think if you do, than you have to be coordinated.

I have. Coordination helps, but practice is the main thing.

I sing harmony on almost every song that I play, and it is tough. It takes an incredible amount of practice. There comes a point though when the singing becomes second nature, and it becomes easier to concentrate on playing.

I have been doing this for quite some time so I guess its second nature for me to sing and play. I sing a total of 8 songs on our list lead but my forte is harmony. In fact our group is known for our harmony work. So for 42 years singing comes second natural.

I sing lead on an average of 5 songs a night and back-ups on most others.

I find songs that are off-time to be the most difficult to play and sing on at the same time.

I'm just starting out singing harmonies and backup while playing... it's tough but I can already tell I'll master it with practice.

First time I tried to sing harmony, I got sooo lost that it became funny. Its something I definitely have to practice at, and that our singer is constantly trying to get us to work on. Its tough, and I dont have a particularly great voice, so a few simple harmonies are about all I can muster.

I sing harmonies on a lot of stuff, and it comes kind of second nature to me, though I started off singing while playing guitar. I always addressed singing and drumming as "Well, I already have four things going at once, why not add a fifth?"

Something that made that easy for me is that I try to make my drumming very "showmanship-y," and one of the ways of doing that for me is that I sing along with my drum parts. It just makes me move my mouth more and make funny faces.

Singing while keepiong time isn't bad. Singing while trying to do fills is tougher. Having a headset mic has helped.

Same here...in fact, I've always likened singing and playing guitar at the same time to playing drums. Both require simultaneous indepence and coordination.

I sing aprrox 15-25 songs per show and do harmonies on everything else. Some parts of songs can be a little tricky but if you do it often enough, it works itself out and becomes second nature

I had to lose my headset mic. Can't get away from it to cough or burp!

The thing that helped most was going to in-ear-monitors. I can concentrate on singing and playing and not have to concentrate on hearing what I'm doing. The IEMs alone made me a better singer and player (but that's for another topic )

I forget the company. But there's a footswith out there that you put between the mic and the mixer that acts as a kill switch. it actually has XLR connectors instead of 1/4 inch ones. Perfect for coughs and burps!
