Members dandrums
Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my Yamaha Stage cutom I had since 2000 and go with the Gretsch Catalina Mod ("06') kit. Has anyone played on these yet?
Members theFoot
There are a few threads running of folks that are playing these. It sounds like everyone is quite happy with them. Use the search to find the threads.
Members Zeromus-X
Two review threads have been posted within the last week or so, one from me. Isn't the Stage Custom a higher-end kit? If so, the Catalina Mod isn't going to be an "upgrade" per se. I still can't stand the hardware on the things, but man they sound good. The hardware is just nothing near the quality of the Export Selects that I upgraded from. Lug tension screws don't turn fluidly, no rubber spacers on the kick drum claws, only a 5-lug 12" tom, etc. The only other thing to remember is that the snare drum is pretty deep... I believe 6.5". What this means is that if you play low, your snare stand might not be able to get low enough. That's a problem I had initially... my snare stand was already as low as it'd go and I was using like a 4" snare... adding that much height made me have to completely change how I was playing! Thanks, I'll check out the review. The stage custom kit is the regular one, not a custom advantage or anything like that, your typical fusion size kit. I can't see this being higher end then the Gretsch. I can get the shell pack for like $450 and keep my hardware. The snare looks nice but I'd probably stick with my Supraphonic
Members larussodrummer
Heres the link to that thread: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1347357 I had a Stage Custom Advantage before I got this kit, and I am very very impressed by it. I would recommend it to anyone looking for this configuration.

What heads are you using?
