I bought "last years model" so didn't get. DW website give a description.I called local GC and they are supposed to get back on $ and availability. Members WillyRay
As I understand it, they're just Remo heads that happen to have a dw logo stamped on them before they ship OEM with dw kits. I don't think there's anything special about them. (I know, the DW, seems like a contradiction, doesn't it? If they have the dw logo stamped on them, by gum, that MAKES 'em special! ) /w
Members theFoot
are these the heads that are clear with a coated band on the outer rim? i thought they were Aquarian Studio X ...errrr sumtin' like dat.
Members the DW
Actually I found out that they are different in that the Aquarian head has the coating ring all the way to the edge, where the dw head has a 1/2" gap between the coated ring and the edge. I'm sure it doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of difference though. And yes, having that dw logo stamped on them makes them VERY special!
Members iDrum4ever
http://www.dwdrums.com/drums/drumfeatures.htm and from the Pacific faq:Q: What makes DW heads special?A: DW drumheads by Remo USA are a special design made exclusively for DW by Remo. They have pressed counter-hoops and a sharp angle around the bearing edge. This combination of factors allows the head to sit better on the bearing edge and produces a very resonate and clear tone. DW heads can be special ordered through your local authorized DW dealer. Just curious if anyone has tried them yet.I've had my Pacific LX for 2 weeks now and can imagine how good they'll sound with quality heads since they sound great with the factory pdp heads. I play Emperor/Ambassador on my Export kit, but want to let these maple shells sing a little more with singles. I have a Taye TourPro snare that has stock skins and it's a killer. My Export bass sports Powerstroke batter w/ pinstripe reso - no hole baby. Just the right mix of thud and boom. On this kit I think I will like a single with a little damping for toms.I've been Remo forever, but might experiment w/ Evans and Aquarian. My dw's came with a set of these heads. They sounded great! However, I had taken the clear dw heads off the bottom to use ebony Ambassadors, and have recently put the dw clear heads on as batters. Even those sound great! But I'm not about to order dw heads. The next set will be coated Ambassadors.
Members sherman22
When I got my DW's they said the snare head was just a coated ambassador with the DW logo. Judging by the sound, they are probobly right. Not that the DW heads are more expensive, they really aren't, but they are just Remo heads. Having the strip of coating on the outer edge of the tom heads, does create a nice warm tone though, I wish Remo made a head like this.
Members Living Dead Drummer
I first saw these heads at the Remo factory last year. I really want to give them a shot as well. however they are only single ply and I and will go though them really fast. I change double ply heads every 2-3 shows as it is. Members iDrum4ever
My impression of the "DW by Remo" heads were that they were fairly new, though there have certainly been DW heads for quite some time. I've play Emperors on my Export, but really like the sound of the single ply PDP heads with the dampling strip around the edge on my new Pacific LX kit. I was ready to pop on the G2 clears, but recently read that 2 ply on maple isn't a great idea. The DW by Remo seems to fit that bill. I know everyone automatically chuck the heads on a new kit, but I wanted to play around, and the stock heads really don't sound that bad. I want better however. Local GC never called back. I better stop by. Massoni - new heads every 2-3 shows? You gotta explain that one to me

I've been using Pinstripes on my dw's with good results, although I recently tried some single ply clear ambassadors with good results too. I ended up using the dw heads with the damping stripe for quite a while before changing them to the Pinstripes, though.
