Just a simple question here. While i love metal and know how to play it quite well, it isnt my favorite style of music. However, i keep getting asked to play in metal bands with different kids. I actually think i found a cool one becaus it will be with some really good friends of mine who share the same views on music as i do. Anyways, i have been using coated ambassadors for the longest time and i love the sound of them. Most metal players i know use clear double ply which i cant stand. They have no depth or character. I just wanted to know if it would be a smart idea to just keep using my trusty coated ambassadors. They have never given me any problems before and i have also never had a problem with durability and i hit not to hard but pertty hard for rock music. what should i do? Thanks. :thu:

Stick with your ambassadors. Not all metal players are bashers and use double ply heads....

Coated ambs have been and continue to be used in all types of music. If they are a necessary element of "your" sound, and you like that sound, then there's no reason to switch. To me the monolithic "corporate" sound of many metal drummers is a turnoff; I'd love to hear something different once in a while.

I too like some character in the sound, and I find that hard to obtain with 2-ply or otherwise muffled heads.
