Anybody got some cool fills using rudiments?

I have been working a lot lately on building up my rudimental drumming skills, and was wondering if anyone has any cool licks for using rudiments around the kit.

Another random question, but how do wood hoops sound compared to others? Do the hoops dent or crack because of rimshots, or do you not rimshot on a wood hoop snare? Thanks.

Try using swiss army triplets to move around the drums. Keep the left hand on the snare and move the right hand across the toms. I love that one for jazz.

Also, get REALLY proficient at the various paradiddle rudiments (single paradiddle, paradiddle-diddle, pa-da-da's) and use them to mimic super fast rolls around the kit.

Also, try doing just regular paradiddles, accenting the downbeat, but with the right hand on your hi-hat and your left hand on the snare. After you've gotten that, try keeping the sticking the same but changing the accent patterns for cool "fills" or "variations".

OOH! Another paradiddle-diddle fill I came up with today in my spanish class (where else?).

Play paradiddle-diddles with your right hand on the tom and your left hand on the snare, but keep your right hand playing very lightly, like ghost notes, and accent your right hand.

CEM- I like it. I like it alot.

paradiddle-diddles are BY FAR my favorite rudiment ever.

Man he has to have his batter heads tuned up tight. No way could I get doubles that fast on my toms. His looks like it has rebound. Mine feels like jello, but sounds good lol...

Having a practice pad selection at work definitely helped me. I use doubles on toms all the time, just practice and you'll get there. Gotta build up the hand strength.

I {censored}ing love me that rudiment. Sounds great with ghosts on left and a trash hit on right. Or even better, right on bell, left on snare, with a whopping kick bomb on every right hit.

CEM thanks for posting this video:thu: been teaching myself for some time now and found myself using the exact paradiddle that Mr Johnson is using,so naturally I felt much better towards my accomplishments in becoming a better drummer. I love that paradiddle exercise so many endless variations.

Maybe I've been going about it wrong, so you're not depending on rebound for quick doubles? Is it all in the wrist, or fingers? Think ill get some hard pillows to practice doubles. I've been using rebound, and its fine on snare, but {censored} on low tuned toms.

Box..........I have my tom batters tuned some on the tight side but on my left hand I have to rely on wrist and arm mechanics due to old hand injury and rebound on the right. When ever I try teach myself a new exercise I always practice with biggest and heaviest stick I can use to develop memory and stick control, then revert back to my normal stick that I use,it's helped me significantly in hand control,it might help ya too, just take it real slow in the beginning, work the snare first until you feel comfortable, then RL on snare andRR and LL on closest tom and back to snare, just keep repeating it and it'll slowly come together and once you feel like your in control, throw the base on the first R on snare and move it around and let her rip:thu:
