Members BoomRecRoom
Hi everyone. I bought my dream kit last June. It is a Ludwig Classic Maple 4 piece in a green sparkle wrap. It has a 20x 18 kick, 12x8 tom, 14x14 floor tom and a 14x5 snare. As I was dusting the kick and trying to admire the fine workmanship, I noticed that the wrap had several air pockets. I was expecting the wrap to be tight and solid. I noticed a couple loose spots on the toms as well. What's your guys take on this? They are still under warranty but it would take months to fix. Is it acceptable for ther to be a few minor air pockets? My old Tama Swingstars had this but they were a cheap set. Not sure what to do if anything. Thanks in advance for any input. Members BLS_1
You could always contact the place where you bought it from or even the company and see if they will do anything about it. On almost all wrapped kits the only thing holding them down is the hardware and it is glued where the ends meet. Some of the upper end kits that use wrap might be different, but I've never seen any glued the whole way around.Usually the air pockets aren't very noticeable, but if yours are which I take that seem to be, I would see if you can have something done about it. All the kits that I wrap I use contact cement so the wrap is stuck down all over the drum with no air pockets. So that might be another option if you want it to be pocket free, is to "re-wrap" the set re using the wrap.
Members fesswrx
I would call the company and get it fixed, not acceptable IMHO. Hell make them give you a loaner or something if its going to be months. I have an old Pearl Export that was my first kit. I haven't played it in 2 years. I got it out of the attic a few weeks ago thinking about selling and cleaned it all up. The wrap is still 100% in tact(no bubbles or pealing. That's sitting in hot in summer and cold in winter temps. If it was done right it should last for years and years. My 0.02 Fess
Members ResoHead
If it is your DREAM kit, don't settle for anything less than what you expected.

Members Jack Thumper
Contact either Ludwig or shop you bought them from and with wrapped drum shells you need to avoid long exposure from the sun and extreme heat conditions cuz this will cause the glue and wrap to soften up which can also lead to wrap separation from the shell. It's a Ludwig so don't settle for any less than perfection.

Members BeakerArk
Make 'em fix it. Bubbles in a wrap are only good for packin'/shippin' stuff, not for drums. Unless they were described as havin' "that sought after half-assed quality", I'd be stompin' mad.
Members boxofrocks
No doubt, you pay that kind of money for something you should expect quality craftsmanship. If it's still under guarantee take it back.

Members ThePloughman
It is a laminate. It is NOT acceptable for there to be pockets. This is not some entry level firewood kit we are discussing here. IMMEDIATELY.... initiate a customer complaint and claim.
