I always find it interesting how musicians communicate their ideas to one another.

Yesterday, we were jamming with a new bass player and we were discussing how to start a Motownish type tune. He suggested that I play Pat Boone, Debby Boone as a pickup.(3 + 4 e on the snare, + on the small tom) I had never heard that one, so I learned something new and I thought I would pass it along.

P.S. In order to get the correct vibe when playing this, you must wear white loafers.

Pat Boone Debby Boone. Say it out loud.

Oh, you're a rock guy, not a pop guy.

Bump-bum, badda-bum.

Good motown pickup.

Now I get it. I tried that before, but now that you've wrote it in front of me it makes sense.

P.S. no rock-guy bashing. I already stuck up for you Jazz type cats this morning. Jeesh! It was the freakin' 70's man! I had no choice but to participate:wave:.

A better pickup might be....3 & ta ta 4 & which mean an 8th note on 3 (tom), crushed 16th triplet (snare), 8th on 4 (snare), 8th on & (tom)....otherwise known as the "ain't to proud to beg" opening...
:thu:

Just do a video... it's easier for us all. ;)
