Members Congested
Hello, I've been a electric guitar player for over 15 years. I play mostly heavy metal. I recently hooked up with a neighbor that has an entry level Pacific 5 piece kit. I've played that kit around 20 times now and I'm hooked on drums. What would be a good kit to look for. I dont have a problem with Craigslist. I've bought a lot of guitars and amps that way. I would like to start with a 6 piece. Probably not the best way to start, but it seems to make more sense to me. But a used 5 piece would work, I can always add. I played a Pacific X7 at guitar center the other day. Wow what a difference over the entry level. Granted the high hat was better and the snare was a lot better. That kit really made me sound good, it was quite inspiring. Here's the direction I'm going in. This is what I've learned on the internet. Pearl Export, or Vision. Tama Rockstar, SuperstarGretsch, Catalina maple or birchLudwig Accent I like the way the older Pearl Exports look with the black hardware. Very metal! If you guys can educate me a little on what to look for I would appreciate it. Oh yah, good heads and good cymbols. I would really like to keep it under $700. So used is best option. Members agogobill
here's a nice article about price levels and what you get: http://georgesdrumshop.com/guide.asp those drums you mentioned are all decent enough ... many of them are probably made in the same factory, so a lot of the quality mainly lies in the hardware and your ability to tune. Good luck, have fun!
Members manoeuver
It doesn't matter what you play as long as you wear a suit. that is all.

Members Kabaalk
If you were me then I'd be you, and I'd use your body to get to the top! You can't stop me no matter who you are! ...Um, so if'n I was you, homie, I'd buy all used, and since you've already got the suit, split it $300 on drums, $400 on cymbals. Maybe $300 on a kit, $100 on an Acrolite, and $300 on cymbals. Drop $100 on a ride, $125 on hats, and $75 on a crash. Hang your cymbals from the ceiling with some fishing line and a hex bolt, since you didn't leave a single penny for cymbal stands, you sillynanny. Welcome to the drum forum.
