Members j4xx0r
A few years ago, I was at a street performer festival in Europe and listened to a band consisting of a guy who played strings (guitar-like instruments) and didgeridoo and a woman who played djembe. As they were always on the move, going to a different location every 30 minutes, the woman had brought an instrument with her that I can only describe as a collapsible djembe. The bottom half disappeared during transport, and I'm not certain if it was simply removable, some typo of nesting construction or perhaps even a bit like a telescope. In any case, I haven't seen anything like it sense (at least for a djembe) and I am trying to find something similar. Has anyone seen anything like this before? I am familiar with the Remo Modular drum, but this is simply not what I saw, even if it is fairly interesting: http://remo.com/portal/products/684/693/eds_modular_drum.html

Members danrothmusic
I can't help, but that certainly sounds interesting
Members Cross Eyed Mary
I wasn't aware there was a portability issue with djembes.
Members slap happy drums
I've heard of the idea, never seen it though.....imagined one years back (kinda like a telescoping camping cup), I swear LP is stealing my thoughts. Portability issues mostly come from (*mostly*) the best Djembes being made from hardwoods, when it comes to lighter wooden drums Ashikos fill this niche quite well , softwood Ashikos sound very nice as do hardwood, still when weight is the issue the Cedar/Redwood Ashiko comes to the rescue. I've got an Ashiko that is 28"X24", it's lighter than my 12"X24" Djembe. Collapsible drums exist, just never put hands on them.
