This is the one and only cover my band does and we started playing it a week before this show, just to fill in set time at this weekend's show.

We ran the set twice about 4 hours before the show, and while I should have been chilling out and not singing every song, I did the complete opposite. Oh well....experience prevails....

Oh yeah, this is obviously closer to the Killswitch Engage version than Dio's. I just figured some of you guys would get a kick out of it...

Not all of them. You might just need to perform the song a little more. You are not so off that we don't know what song you are singing. It is a way cool song and Dio is one hell of a great singer. Who cares, you rock and we know it. If I knew anything I would be out there singing in my own band. It will happen eventually.

Here is a good excercise for you: Borrow or steal the guitarists guitar tuner and sing in it and try to center the needle on different notes.

Or if you got the game Singstar/Rock Band/Guitar Hero (w/vocals)

Play with it a few hours a day. Use the hardest difficulty and try to be as precise pitch-wise as possible. It's just like the tuner, but much more fun and challenging as you are doing it on the fly.

I've actually been playing guitar for 15 years....I've got a couple tuners kickin' around of my own. :)

It's definitely pitchy in some areas. Like I had said, we practiced the set two times before this show.....and I spend half my time singing more like this-

Definitely learned my lesson on over-singing before a show that night. I had never been so drained after running the set 3 times in one day.

This is EXACTLY what I do.

Whenever I give this advise it's like nobody notice it. I mean ever, you are the first one who ever respond to this tip. Either people ignore the tips cause they think it's foolish to have fun when you practice, or either they haven't heard about these games. Or they question it's impact on vocal technique.

I've been using Singstar from it came out and whenever I feel my pitch is wandering on a gig, I play some hours to fine tune. If I use it a few hours for a day, my pitch gets better, especially when jumping between large intervals. After 2 days I notice that phrasing, breath is improved. Whenever I've used it for hours a day for 2 weeks or more, it's like my technique is super-charged and difficult things suddenly get's a breeze. Only problem is it WILL drop down when going back to normal (some songs a week)

These games are a hidden secret, and just like anything else, nothing comes free. You need to spend the hours!!

"Singing"

Yup, glad you said it first...

BTW, To follow your honesty:

Doing a song only twice is no excuse for being off pitch. It is a excuse for forgetting the lyrics. It is also a excuse for forgetting the melody. But it is no excuse for singing the melody constantly 1/3 semitone below original pitch. Especially when you follow the melody and sing the lyrics correct...:D

It's like claiming that the guitar was out of tune because you only have played the song 2 times....:poke:
