Members lpg8248
Is it possible to gain vocal range through practicing? Are there certain muscles that allow you to sing that you can develop more in order to gain range? Lately, I've found that I can hit higher notes than I could before and I was thinking that it was simply a mental thing because i've been practicing a lot lately now that I'm recording but is it possible that i've been conditioning my vocal's and that has allowed me to sing higher? Thanks.

Members romvert
Although practice is a given and it can't be said enough about it, knowledge is more important, like in finding your voice in all registers (resonance, supported of course). The more you practice the wrong stuff, the harder it will be to fix it, that is if you ever fix it...
Members Bajazz
Unless you have a freakin range already, you can improve it. It is very typical for singers to be disatisfied with range, as it is with guitar players and speed. I guess it's a vitallity and energy issue. Just as an athlete uses speed and/or strength to show healthiness. The faster/stronger - the more work. Many singers have been living under the myth that range is set at your birth, but simple physique tells that this is bull{censored}. Take for example Adam Lopez, who not only can sing higher than Maria Carey, but also lower than most basses. So is he born with long or short vocal cords? He has perfectly normal cords, his speaking voice is totally Joe Average. The answer is to work on technique.
