Members STRANDMAN1
These days and at my age it's a rare occasion. But since Dean Martin and Waylon Jennings did so well singing in that mode I'm wondering if it might be a viable vocal enhancement technique. http://soundcloud.com/user911307114/colorado-girl/s-qJhh0

Members STRANDMAN1
Goes off pitch more than once. Aka flat or sharp. Oh. I thought he was saying "pitchery" as in, "it sounds beer pitchery". I agree but what's important is, do you think it would make a bar full of butt faced cowboys drop a tear in their beer? Just trying to get a chuckle folks.
Members busdriver72
It would seem that in a lot of country music (and alot of other types of music) staying in key is optional.

No waterworks happening here but I will say your vocal quality is good. Your control is not as nuanced as it could be but it isn't detracting from the basic quality. If that's due to Mr. Daniels enhancements then I see some Highwaymen action in your future.
Members Tommy57
STRANDMAN1, I liked it. I didn't think it was bad at all. I suppose if I went back and went over it with a fine tooth comb I might find something to nit pick but it would be just that...nit picking. I listened to it as if I were someone in a bar listening to the bar band or whatever. Not as a judge. With that said I think it was fine. I did listen for pitchy spots but didn't hear anything to speak of. Anything I might have heard was just that....I "might" have heard. If you look for things you will find them....I didn't and I found it enjoyable. Can you sing it without the booze? Nice job. I'm not really a country dude so I never heard that song. Pretty cool,
Members STRANDMAN1
Can you sing it without the booze? First, I want to thank everyone for taking the time to listen and give me some good advice. After reading what you have all had to say I went back and listened to the song a couple of more times. What I'm hearing is that on the last word of some of the phrases I'm cutting the word into two notes (starting 1/2 step low and then raising it) but going weak and a out of pitch at the tail end. It may not be all that noticeable but it doesn't really need to be there. I'm thinking I'd be better served to make that last word one single note and work at ending it strong. What I've gotten from all of this so far is that focusing on ending my phrases with better definition is something that would improve my delivery quite a bit. Usually I'm pretty good at splitting my brain between my guitar and my vocals but on this song obviously "Jack" wasn't helping me much with that kind of concentration. LOL Here's one that's not "Country" and isn't "Jack" influenced. I'd greatly appreciate all of your feedback on this one as well. Sock it to me. I'm always willing to take it on the chin for my music. After all the whole Idea is to get better at what we do. http://soundcloud.com/user911307114/cheeseburger/s-3U9Rb
Members scr@tchy
I have read that alcohol will eventually cause a permanent rasp in your voice over time. Perhaps decrease your range too. I have an already scratchy voice from singing with poor technique for many years, if I drink hard liquor it becomes more pronounced the next few days and my range isn't as effortless. If I drink wine it doesn't seem to have the same negative effects. Have you noticed any negative effects like raspiness?
Members Jersey Jack
The link in the original post isn't working for me. The soundcloud page loads, but when I try to start the playback, nothing happens. Probably an issue with soundcloud. I'll try again later.

I used to put em away when I was younger but those days are long gone. These days and for the most part I drink socially once in a while but even then only a beer or 3. Members Jersey Jack
Okay, I was able to access the track, and I think you're a fine singer for this kind of music. As to pitchiness, this genre allows for (and may even encourage) looser vocals--I think your voice is in fact less pitchy than Townes van Zandt's in the original version. A lot of other genres (usually the non- Dylan influenced genres) are much less forgiving than this one. That's why I love TvZ and the whole Texas singer/songwriter scene--relaxed about vocal perfection! Nice performance!
