Members Dib432 Posted November 4, 2002 Members Share Posted November 4, 2002 I spin house and progressive house at my house parties and occasionally at my friends college's coffe shop/ bar for a dance night thing that he organizes. I've never been paid to DJ before, but last time I spun a guy came up to me and said he'd pay $100 for an hour set. This guy is kind of a prick and he was drunk too, so I'm not entirely sure he was serious. Is that a standard rate for an entry level gig for a first timer? Keep In mind that I'm at a point where I would probably pay THEM to spin in a real club, but I'd say I'm good enough to be paid for DJ'ing. I literally bring a ton(2000#s) ofcd's, gear and lights. New Years I am raising my rates to $100/hour still 4 hour minimum locally. I have been losing gigs because I don't charge enough, believe it or not. Corporate clients drop the high and low bids, and work the middle ground. Members coc999 Posted December 13, 2002 Members Share Posted December 13, 2002 In 12 or 14 years of mix i have earn not more than 500 dols haha ok i'm a looser in that buznniss , i have played too much for free . for my vynils i have spent about 2000 vynils x 10 dols (that's the price of an ep import here)=20000 dols. But my 2000 vynils are da best selection of house , tech ,hip hop and various...of these 12 or 14 last years..... and i'm proud to be a killer dj have nothin to prove to nobody on any world scene and in any style.This week end i have played 8 hours for free and a guys from a big "famous" label asks me my phone number and i say talk to my manager he says "i'm cool" and i respond "me too":) I'm happy to know that some dj's earn about 1000 or 10000 dols pretty cool for that guys,life is cooollllll for them. good luck man.
