hiya

I've been playing music for nearly 10 years now, mainly bass, but over the last 12 months have decided to start recording some of my own stuff which of course has involved singing. That previous i havn't sung a note outside the shower!

I've got so far with it and although i'm not happy with my voice i can tolerate it enough to carry on but i really struggle with pushing it and keeping long notes held.

Heres a link to my stuff:

I'm still trying to find what my voice does at the moment as i'm sure you'll gather! But any advise, feedback etc would be greatly apreciated!

Cheers!

It's hard to comment on your voice as it's so far back in the mix on these tracks. But I certainly don't hear anything bad--in fact, given the style of your music, the vocals work well. I guess I would like your voice to stand out a bit more, but the whoel things works well as it is.

By the way, your name Hibernation is perfect. This stuff is sleepy! Not bad, mind you, just mellow to the point of dozing. :idk:

I went through the same situation a few years back. The biggest thing for me was just singing every day. Your voice is like a muscle and gets stronger the more you use it.

And don't be afraid to seek out some voice lessons. Learning the technique of how to manipulate your voice is helpful.

haha, cheers man. I'll take that as a compliment! I'm trying for a real Dreamy, organic kind of wash over you feel so thanks.

I see your point though and my issue will come when i start playing these live. If i havn't got a full band behind me, which i won't have all of the time, my voice is going to be a lot more exposed and for that reason i'm avoiding getting it past a recording stage. But... i really want to start playing them!

My voice just seems really inconsistant at the moment, like one day its great and i can hit good long notes in different ranges then the next its croaky and just won't handle anything past a whisper?!

I sing now pretty much everyday but its not getting any more predictable?!

It takes some time. I sang every day for about six months before even considering a gig. And before that I had been singing backup as well as doing sight singing stuff in college. So a little head start.

Even then my voice would be inconsistent. Especially if I was doing a bunch of nights in a row. I'd be gone by night 3, back by night 5. That doesn't happen anymore.

That being said though, don't wait too long to gig. Get out and start doing some open mics and stuff. Just to get your feet wet.
