...might as well show you some of my old recordings I dug up from the comp. Two completely different things.

This one was recorded on a young musicians night in a jazz club here in my town. February 17, 2003. I was a month away from 15, if I'm not mistaken :p The guys called me that Monday morning and asked if I wanted to play a gig with them, I said "sure, when?" - "Tonight"

A cover of Therion's ABBA cover

December of 2004, I was a young metalhead with classical training and nuts enough to do this :D yes, I know the band sucks. We had major sound problems, and the person who was supposed to sing the verse suddenly had a change of heart, so I did it by myself. We've seen better, but what the hell.

Bring it on :wave::lol:

Ooh, Mama!

Well, here it goes:

Hit the Road Jack - I love that damn song. Really powerful vocals already. If you didn't already know by this time you had something going here, I hope you did shortly after. I wish you had pulled it back and been a bit more sultry and gritty in certain parts rather than having such emphasis on the growly powerful aspects of the song, but it still works.

White Rabbit - awesome. Your voice is well-suited for this song, as I'm sure you know. Sounds like you had fun with it too. This song is pretty much always on my Ipod. :)

Zombie - your voice is definitely different from the Cranberries' singer. I almost wish you would have fully given over to your own voice and completely disregarded her stylings and maybe even melody to pursue your own take on it. I still think you did a great job.

Overall, I really dig your voice. There's great power (and control of that power) and nice vibrato. I'd like to hear you temper that power with more soft, sultry kinda stuff so that everyone can appreciate when you go to the belting area. Myself, I've always enjoyed belting and being dark and powerful and now I'm trying to work on the more feminine softer and angelic falsetto type stuff.

*claps* *holds up lighter*

I am well aware that I lack some variety, that I often sing at full volume, which makes it difficult to go back to softer and "calmer" vocals. I am working on it as we speak, as I don't think good interpretation is possible without it.

Thank you for taking the time to listen and comment, it's very much appreciated :)

Agreed. This is the exact same thing I have been working on recently for myself. So, I'm right there with you. Hopefully I will unlock something soon and it will start to click. I've been contemplating going to a jazz vocal coach for some help along the way. Let me know if you stumble upon anything helpful and I'll do the same.

I've been messing around with major and minor scales and just climbing up and down alternating between. That's been fun as hell and I think it's been helping. I think it's more of a mental thing than anything else....

Best wishes!

I have gone back to classical singing lessons, so it's been helpful in maintaining control over my voice. Also, I've stumbled upon a vocal coach who isn't really anything special, but he said one thing that never occurred to me - if you start in piano, you can go to forte and back, but if you start in forte, it's hard to go anywhere from that point. I have no idea how I never came to that conclusion, it's really pretty obvious :lol:

Oh, and one more thing - I used to sing at this full volume all the time because I was struggling with the band, I couldn't hear myself properly. So the band and I dedicated just a bit of time to that and we figured out how to place the PA and everything so that I could hear myself. I realised I really AM expressive even if I don't sing at 120% all the time, I just need to hear myself properly.

So much for that, now back to the purely vocal technical stuff :p I'll write here as I figure stuff out.

It's pretty good overall... I wish you would've put more head resonance into the ABBA song, it was a little weak. And the Zombie thing... I think your range is limited by a little belting that you do toward the top of your range;it's usually the reason why one's falssetto/ higher register dissapears. You have to let your folds thin out naturally and not push too hard.

Let me take a stab at it: Sove and background chatter is polish, right?

It was a drunken friend filming us, saying something about a "fine looking woman" who passed by

Thanks romvert, you're absolutely right about everything

AAAH! I heard "dobre" and I know that's the same in polish, correct?
