  1. Continuing my audio editing quest in a pal's short film, there are a number of pops heard during scene changes. Using Logic 8, I normally can fix these with crossfades, but because I'm working off an edited audio track I can't do that in most of these cases. I ran the audio through Soundtrack Pro using a filter to remove pops & clicks. It got rid of some, but there are still a few I can't get fix. Should I be asking the director for the original audio tracks so I can apply new crossfades or other tricks?

Applying compression to the track seems to make these pops more obvious. But the mixed track is a bit on the quiet side, so I'm also trying to figure out what to do there.

    Thanks?

  2. Been doing some audio editing for a pal's short film, mostly adding footsteps & stuff. But now I need to get the levels balanced between the really loud dialogue scenes and the quiet ones. Any tips?

Using Logic 8, I've got the dialogue split between two tracks, as one of them had some mic/wind issues I had to clear out.

I suck at using compression, despite studying tutorials up the wazoo. I bring the threshold down, compensate that drop by increasing gain, but I don't hear a balance between the tracks. Then again, playing with the track levels sort of helps...but then I wonder why I should bother with compression!

(Been using Logic for 15 years and I still feel like a noob...)

  3. Working on my cover of "One Thing Leads to Another" by The Fixx. Took it to some pro dudes who have a quality Pro-tools rig and recording studio. They helped me mix some tunes on my CD awhile back. This tune is sounding good, but I don't know...something's not happening in the mix. The drums still have a "demo" quality to me that I can't put my finger on. I need some outside ears. They're telling me they think this song is near the finish line before mastering, but I'm not so sure.

    Much appreciated.
