If he did not do the things he did, or hendrix did not do the things he did, who knows what we would be listening to and playing today. Some songs are simple, some are not. That is anyone's ability. I would say he is on of the most influential guitarists of all time. I can't say who is better, or not. What is better: harder to copy or better writing ability, or more palatable to most ears? EVH and Rhoads were the two reasons I picked up a guitar in the first place. Can people play their stuff now, yep. For me, some of the harder stuff to copy are Yngwei, and Vai, but their composition is not so palatable for most people.

I think the best traits a guitarist can have is the ability to play great music, that you want to listen to, and not just the ability to play hard things. Many nobodies can play harder music. Just look at those young North Korean girls, or the endless youtube videos of guys playing the hardest pieces the 100 greatest guitarists can come up with. The true magic for me is to just for someone to come up with it.

I played that song in speech class in high school. I did a speech on how hard it is to learn guitar. The class asked me to play something after. I had been playing a year or two, that is what I came up with.

I think Page can be REALLY sloppy, and I've seen some dreadful live clips, but that doessn't take away from what he has achieved. It's all subjective anyway...you dont have to be better than someone to not like their playing.

True. But, the way some people say that they suck. You don't have to like their style, or songs even. But, once you get to that level. The suck goes out the door. Plus, to me anyway, when people say this they are insinuating they are better. Some one may be better. The next Page, or whoever, may be on this board right now.

I don't see Garcia as being a guitar hero. But, then agian, I don't really listen to the Dead, and he is not someone typically brought up.

I simply trying to separate Hammet, Mustaine, Clapton, Gilmour, Hendrix, Slash, etc. Guys that are known for playing great. Not just guys that play the guitar. {censored}, Eddie Vedder plays the guitar. I would think most would know what I was trying to get at.

But, yes, it seems people are just picking some popular player. I hate the term Hero as well, but I could not think of any other term that would get the type of guitarist I meant.

I'll take a nice Honeyburst or Lemonburst Plain Top anyday.

Maybe all the JP is sloppy and sucks people are not on here tonight. Or, they are too chicken to prove they are better.

Yeah, I though of that. He actually had to bring in that other guy, because he couldn't remember the lyrics and the chords.

I used to not get Slash. I thought he sucked. Then, I tried to play some of his songs. I think it was because he was a much slower player than the other guys I had been listening to in the 80's (or the end of the 80's). He did not shred is what I am getting at.

That is not what I was after. I can't stand Yngwie(Sp?). But, he is pretty damn good. I am asking what player do you say sucks are you better than. I hear people bashing guys left and right. JP sucks, Hendrix sucks. They are too sloppy, etc.

Keith Richards is a riffmaster. His playing is simple, to me. But, for what he does, I can't beat him.

I can say I am a better lead player than Scott Ian, but he does not play solos at all. So, that is not fair.

After reading through another Jimmy Page sucks thread, it got me thinking. If you think Page, EVH, Hammet, or whoever sucks. Who are you better than? And, if you have the balls, prove it.

I think I am better than no one. I play so ADD (), even if I can play a riff better than someone, they still kick my ass on playing a full song.

Yes. Fender '68 Bassman head. I found it in an attic. Sold it to fund my Classic 30. Which I like, but wish I kept it as well.

No, but I took a bassman head from '65 or '68. It was in an attic and was going to be thrown out. It was the ex-boyfriend of the guys daughter. It was in the attic over 20 years. So, does that count?

I don't have that problem. There are plenty of guitars I do not want. But, there are plenty of guitars I do want. Plenty. There are some guitars I would not kick out of bed, but I would not play them much.

I have been thinking this for a few years now.
