  1. yea, i wish those rd's would sell out. i just dont even need one, and the black with rosewood with dots is just so meh to me. its basically my black explorer only a little less pointy. all other options are pretty much identical, not to mention i have a lp studio too. im gonna wait for something more useful to my collection to pop up. the week or so has been incredible with the epi 56, tiny terror, rw tele, and now this gibson. im gonna hang tight for "the" deal

  2. Actually THAT'S a great example of "Face."

I work in Robotics and have been in auto plants all over the world. Toyota is famous in the industry for doing invisible recalls (I forget the proper term off hand). If you have a Ford, and some part is known to go wrong, they'd send you a letter to bring your car in for a fix. Toyota on the other hand waited until you brought your car in for maintenance, then they'd do the work and you wouldn't know anything about it. Your oil change just took longer and there were three guys doing it... it just auto/prints on the work order.

You'd think Ford makes crap because they called your car in for another fix, and Toyotas are great because they haven't. Until the lawsuits start from people who DON'T bring their cars into a Toyota dealer for work... and have been driving around with a known dangerous problem. "Face" doesn't always work. Sometimes you've got to stand up and say, we made a mistake... the Japanese aren't very good at that. It wasn't long ago when they'd kill themself for that kind of thing.

P.S. Toyota is Sony in the 90s... in a race to the bottom.

sorry, way off topic, but im actually majoring in electronics/control systems and graduate next semester. where are you located? id like to know a little more about working in the field too. id appreciate it if you could give me some advice or pointers. sorry everyone, back to topic...

  3. i got a faded studio and a hwy1. i love them, i went through guitars like underwear for a couple years, and ive had these for a while. i think that says something. and here's a little something to think about...

id rather have an american made gibson lp that is stripped down without fancy finish, inlays, fretboard wood, etc for the same price as an agile with all the bells and whistles. i feel like all those things are just a waste of money. some people like to argue, well the agile is the same price and you get ebony board, binding, abalone inlays, you would need to spend 3000 on gibson to get the same. well i would personally rather have the gibson quality and durability than some aesthetic upgrades on a korean (i think, maybe chinese?) guitar that looks like a retarted lp with a little horn and a goofy headstock. lol sorry, rant over...not to say i wouldn't get a nicer looking lp if i could, but given my $$ situation, the real deal stripped down was a better option IMO than the glorified cheapie.

  4. if he was selling like mazi bees friend (i do that pretty often, selling for a profit) it wouldnt be a big deal. i think he needs to sell everything, save up a nice chunk of change and grab a really really nice guitar thats a keeper. he can play it for a while and save up again and add another great one. thats what im trying to do, and even as a college student, ive wound up with a gibson and a usa strat (even if they are faded and hwy 1 )

  5. where did you find those specs? i still wasnt sure until now what pickups were in the satin ebony that is on the way.

what is the difference between the 50's and 60's necks?

well the box said 60s neck as did the tag when i purchased it. i mainly bought cause it was the best sounding and feeling gibby in my price range that day and i got a great deal because of a single scratch on it. i really love it, playing it right now. i emailed gibson for the specs and they got back to me with them. you wont be disappointed.
the 50s neck is much fatter, think like a baseball bat (i know, not a real baseball bat neck). the 60s neck is slimmer, and i think the nut width is narrower as well, which i happen to like a lot, not that i dont like the 50s necks. the 498/490 would normally be just a bit dull with all mahogany, but without the pickups covers they are a bit punchier and make up for it. i really like the sound of this thing, as well as the feel of the faded finish and the 60s neck.:thu:
