I guess technically I did. A buddy of mine once got kicked out of his dorm and came to live in my basement for about a month. He left a bunch of his stuff including a Cheap Starcaster. It had been sitting at my house for about years. We were cleaning out the basement and called him to come get his stuff. He got his golf clubs and a bunch of his clothes, but left the guitar behind. He wasn't much of a player anyway so I figured he really didn't want it so I hacked it for parts and turned it into a relic strat project.

I don't know why the guys are complaining about the Tiny frets, even the Pre-CBS Fenders had those same tiny frets. The CBS era is not as bad some people make it. Yes, many are dogs, but some are extraordinary instruments as well. I have an '81 Bullet Deluxe ( Still CBS ) and it is amazing.

Also I think the Op is talking about the reissues, which are made a lot more consistently well than the original guitars.

Some of the older MIMs were made out of as much as 5-7 pieces, but now a days most are 3 pieces. Most Alder bodied Squiers are 2-3 pieces these days too

Well I don't own a MIM at the moment, just MIAs and MIC, but my preference is for which guitar plays the nicest. I played a MIM 60s classic yesterday at Best Buy and it was amazing. And at 500 something I might go back and get it
