My favorite is db poweramp - it's a small program, all ya do is right-click on a file (or group of files) set your preferences & let er rip!
I use an older version without all the bells & whistles of newer versions - but I'm sure the more recent releases are great. Actually, the initial "free" download may be the same as what I use ... I dunno - but it runs great on my Win 98 & my Win 2k machines.
I haven't used their music player, cd burner nor portable audio organizer - just the converter.
Only drag about db poweramp is that they don't make a Mac version.
