Good points.....It's nice to have different guitars with different pickups (with their own strengths and weaknesses) for different voicings. You can tweak the tone of a set of pickups in a guitar like you mention too by playing with component values and pickup/pole height.

OP: what is it exactly you don't like about the distorted tone?

Plan to do about what? I don't follow why I'd be less comfortable with who I am at 80 than I am today...that's just a fairly absurd concept IMHO. Course, I don't have any stupid metal tattoos in the first place so take it for what it's worth.

I merely responded to your simple but incorrect statement that the shop owner was the only person committing a criminal act. For someone that doesn't give two {censored}s, that response is a lot of {censored}s.

I've had an acquaintance offer to sell me a stolen gear for cheap...No interest.

I also have a cab that a buddy left at my house about a decade or so ago that I use all the time. In my mind it's still his so if he ever wants it back, no problem.

On average a plain old damp cloth for cleaning is about all the preventative maintenance my guitars need....especially since they are not getting subjected to wild swings or extremes in temp and humidity or other severe conditions.

Oils and other board preps do look nice though.

I actually think that most of that box store stuff is pretty cool when it comes down to it for the simple fact that I wish there was so much basically decent lower priced gear to choose from when I started out.

There was a point where every event that had live entertainment would feature a dime store version of a Vaughanabee, sometimes with just the silly hat. It was enough to make me never want to hear his music for a good span of years.
