  • Sony Announces New Sampling Reverb Options

    By Guest |

Sony Electronics announced several key new options for its dynamic DRE-S777 sampling digital reverb. The two new configurations include the new DRE-S777/2, the DRE-S777/PAC (at a reduced price) and an economically-packaged World Library set of three sampling reverb software CD-ROMs -European, American and Japanese "acoustic spaces."

"The DRE-S777/2 provides the end-user with all the functionality of the full-blown package minus analog I/O," said Courtney Spencer, vice president of marketing for professional audio products at Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Company. "The DRE- S777/2's expansion board offers four-channel output capability, double sample rate (88.2 or 96kHz) operability, and a split-mode feature enabling users to run two discrete stereo reverbs simultaneously."

DRE-S777 PAC features include 96kHz sampling rates, high-quality 24-bit A/D and D/A conversion, a large LCD display, and optional DASK S704 sampling software. The DRE-S777/2 is the standard sampling digital revcrb equipped with a DSP expansion board. It is geared for audio professionals who operate in an environment where pure digital interfacing is required.

The installation of the DABK-5700 analog I/0 interface option kit can provide analog capability if required. The kit features 24-bit A/D, D/A converters with balanced XLR for two inputs and four outputs.

The original DRE-S777/PAC is also available. "A complete reverb system, this fully-loaded model includes factory-installed DSP expander board and analog I/O option at a new low price," Spencer said. "This unit is geared toward hybrid (analog/digital) studios and facilities, and rental companies where client needs change on a daily basis."

Additionally, Sony is offering the DASK-S700 Complete World Sample CD-ROM Library featuring three sampling reverb software packages: DASK-S701, "European Acoustic Spaces," DASK-S702, "American Acoustic Spaces," and DASK-S703, "Japanese Acoustic Spaces." Previously sold only as separate units, the discs are now bundled together at a very significant savings.

Each CD-ROM offers reverb sample algorithms of a diverse collection of pre-recorded spaces, including well-known recording studios and concert halls, houses of worship, and even natural environments, such as the Grand Canyon.

Also available is the DASK S704 sampling software that harnesses the DSP power of the S777 to allow users to sample their own spaces and store them on removable Memory Stick media.

"The S777 is the most natural sounding reverberation system we've ever made," Spencer said. "We believe that the availability of the S77712 and S777/PAC configurations will better accommodate the professional audio industry's needs."

The DRE-S777/2 is available for a suggested list price of $9,000; the DRE-S777/PAC is available for $11,500; the DASK-S700 analog I/O interface option kit is priced at $2,450; and the DASK-S700 Complete World Sample CD-ROM Library is available for $930. Purchased individually, sample CD-ROMs are available for $500 each. The DASK S704 sampling software option is priced at $930.
