  • New Sound ROMs for Proteus 2000

    By Guest |

E-mu has announced the first set of expansion sound ROMs for their Proteus® 2000 Sound Module. The Proteus 2000 Sound Module is a 128 voice rack mount sample playback module with four internal ROM slots that can address up to 128MB of ROM space. The new sound ROMs announced include the Holy Grail Piano (model number 9081, retail price $295) which provides incredible detail and nuance in a sampled piano, and the Protozoa Sounds of the Proteus 1, 2 and 3 sound set (model number 9082, retail price $249) which delivers all of the sounds from the original Proteus/1, Proteus/2, and Proteus/3 sound modules in a single userinstallable ROM. Both ROMs can be installed in the Proteus 2000, with one more slot available for future ROM sets, and more sound ROMs are expected to be announced next month.

Piano ROM captures mechanical nuances of acoustic piano action

The new Holy Grail Piano ROM from Q-Up Arts utilizes a new sample processing and preset programming technology called VMS, for Virtual Modeling Synthesis (patent pending), developed exclusively for E-MU products. The Holy Grail Piano provides realistic simulation of the various mechanical aspects of an acoustic piano, including sympathetic string resonance, hammer kick and recoil, and damper resonance. Quality piano samples combine with "real world" subtlety from the various mechanical systems of an acoustic piano action to create a remarkably realistic acoustic piano experience, according to the company.

Protozoa ROM provides complete complement of general purpose sounds

The new Protozoa ROM SIMM provides all of the samples and presets from the original Proteus 1, 2, and 3, with the added benefit of the new Proteus 2000 sound engine being able to provide real time filters and effects that were not possible with the original Proteus series.

"There are tens of thousands of musicians the world over who rely on the sounds of the original Proteus modules in their everyday work" says Scott Emmerman, VP of Sales and Marketing. "Now they are able to use the sounds they have come to know and trust, and use them as a departure point for even more dramatic sounds thanks to the remarkable power of the Proteus 2000 effects and filter engine, in addition to taking advantage of quadruple the polyphony of the original Proteus."

Each ROM set has its own unique artwork, colorful boxes, and a worldwide advertising campaign is planned. The first two ROMs will ship in the month of July through E-mu's standard distribution channel.
