Digidesign, North American distributor of Focusrite products, is re-introducing to the North American market the Focusrite Platinum Series Compounder Stereo Compressor.

The Compounder is a dual-channel VCA-based compressor that includes a pair of expanders/gates. It also features a true stereo linking and a Bass Expander section not normally found on compressors that significantly increases the low-end punch and presence of the material being processed. The Compounder is equally suited for recording, live sound, club installations, or broadcast use.

The Compounder features Class A circuits based on their own proprietary design. Unbalanced quarter-inch and balanced XLR connections are provided for easy connection in any environment.

"Initial demand for the Compounder was below our initial expectations," North American Focusrite Sales and Marketing Manager Dino Virella comments. "Murphy's Law took over, and as soon as we stopped bring them to North America, of course the Compounder became a cult classic with dance remix engineers, particularly due to the Bass Expander processor. It's a very different compressor from the rest of the Platinum Series in that Compounder uses a VCA-based design, which is very fast and transparent. After many people begged for us to make them available again, the Compounder is back. We've also managed to lower the cost, so I believe that the Compounder is a product which may have been ahead if its time."

    Focusrite Compounder MSRP: $735 (USD)
