  • QTec Designs Release Essential Recording Concepts Volume 1 Instructional DVD

    By Guest |

Francis Buckley, Grammy-award winning engineer, producer, and president of Level V Entertainment, shares the secrets of his recording success in a new series of DVDs produced by QDVD in association with Level V.

The first release, Essential Recording Concepts Volume 1: Studio Fundamentals (MSRP $34.99), is devoted primarily to setting up and sonically treating your studio space. The idea behind the DVD's approach is that creating an environment that allows for good sounds to be recorded and accurately monitored is the first and most important step on the path to creating a great final product.

Topics covered on the DVD include surveying your studio space, setting up your monitors, treating reflections and standing waves, wiring your equipment, fundamental concepts of signal path and gain-staging, and microphone basics. The DVD also includes a section on building sound absorption panels and includes a variety of test tones for evaluating and fine-tuning your room's response. Commentary from industry experts, including microphone designer Peter Freedman (RØDE) and legendary transducer engineer Walter Dick (Equator Audio) rounds out the DVD's content.

Unlike traditional instructional DVDs, Essential Recording Concepts features information that is deliberately not brand-specific. The time-proven concepts presented can be applied to virtually any recording setup, from a simple home studio to a full-blown production facility, and to any recording medium, from computer-based DAWs to hardware recorders.

Buckley, who won a Grammy for "Best Engineered Album" (Quincy Jones's Jook Joint), is the recipient of multiple platinum records and Golden Reel awards and has worked with world-class artists ranging from Aerosmith to Alanis Morissette. He is regularly behind the boards on television shows and movies.
