  • Marek Design Introduces The VS2 Tube Condenser Microphone System

    By Guest |

Marek Design Creative Microphone Systems introduces the VS2, a hand crafted tube condenser microphone system. Its entirely new microphone design has been registered for multiple patents. The VS2 is especially created for high end recording applications.

A special acoustical feature is the exceedingly thin pure aluminium diaphragm of the cardioid capsule which is 1" in diameter. It gives the VS2 this unique and desirable sound. It has a good cardioid proximity effect and gives a big, warm sound with a unique clarity and precision.

As known from the Marek Design RS1 microphone, the VS2 is built to a very high standard. A very low self-noise of 8 dB-A and the dynamic range of 128 dB (extended dynamic range is 155 dB SPL) allows reproduction of the full musical spectrum without restraint. This microphone is able to accept sound pressure levels of up to a maximum of 163 dB. The all-tube circuit of this microphone allows for extremely fine reproduction of small signals and low frequency information. Also, long cable runs can be used with no loss of signal quality.

Like the RS1, the output is both line level and microphone level. Due to the line level output it is not necessary to use a mic pre-amp (but one can be used too). With the gain adjustment in the external control unit it is possible to drive recording equipment or A/D converters directly to ensure highest quality audio without any loss.

The VS2 has an integrated shock mount that makes the mic very easy to handle. Like all Marek Design microphones, the VS2 uses handselected non-microphonic original NOS special quality long-life tubes. The capsule is externally heated to make it suitable for outside recordings. Housing, supply and shock mount are made of solid, three-dimensional milled high-grade steel, built for common generations. The whole microphone (even its capsule) is handcrafted in a small wokshop in Germany.
