GMS Drum Co. has combined their design principles with new offshore production efficiencies, allowing them to simultaneously lower costs and raise the bar for products in the affordable-quality drumset category. "This is a completely new direction for us," says GMS President Tony Gallino. "The 2003 CL series represents an area of new growth potential for the company as well as the ability to accommodate the many drummers who have told us that they'd love to buy a set of GMS drums but can't yet afford one of our U.S.-made custom-shop kits."

Manufactured to GMS's specs, the updated CL Series features 7-ply, 100% rock maple shells (equal in thickness to the Grand Master Series' 8-ply shells) with precision-cut, 45 bearing edges; low-mass, small-footprint lugs supplied to the factory by GMS; suspension tom mounts; a choice of three hand-applied satin finishes Natural Maple, Walnut, and Midnight; and professional-grade Evans heads. The line includes three suggested configurations offered with or without a hardware package that features double-braced stands. Add-on toms are available. Suggested retail prices start at $1,700 without stands and $2,240 with the optional hardware package. Every CL drumset is checked for quality at GMS's headquarters in New York before it is shipped to dealers.
