BitHeadz, Inc., the manufacturer of software instruments is now shipping a PC version of the Voodoo Software MIDI Drum Machine that integrates sampling, synthesis, and MIDI sequencing.

Voodoo transforms a PC into a programmable drum machine that plays samples and Standard MIDI files. Patterns and individual samples can be triggered by the mouse, the computer keyboard, a MIDI controller, or another MIDI application running concurrently.

All functionality is accomplished within one window containing multiple drum pads. Samples are assigned to pads simply by dragging a sample from hard disk to the pad. Clicking a pad displays it's dedicated control parameters for pitch, volume, filter settings, pan, velocity, envelope, mute groups, and two effects processors. Up to four samples can be layered on a pad for switching with velocity or other controllers.

When a pad is selected, it's sample waveform is graphically displayed. The sample can then be modified in many ways, including changing loop points, cut/copy/paste, and numerous other digital signal processing functions. Samples can be exported by simply dragging to the hard disk. Voodoo can also export drum kits in Unity DS-1 format for users of BitHeadz' popular Unity DS-1 Digital Sampler.

"One of my favorite things about Voodoo is having synthesis parameters like LFO's and resonant filters for every drum pad," says BitHeadz Sales Director, Earl Sondreal. "With these types of sound design features you can get some really amazing timbres you would never be able to achieve with a traditional drum machine."

Voodoo ($199 MSRP) is optimized for the Pentium III/IV and Apple G4 processors and supports ASIO, Direct I/O, DirectConnect, MAS 2.0, ReWire, DirectSound, and Sound Manager. Over 200 MB of drum kits and Standard MIDI files in various styles are included.
