Members Lou Pezza
Anyone with a RCF 725A powered speakers from 2009-2012 should get their amp units checked. I now have two failed units out of warranty and £900.00 paid on new amps by the UK main dealer. The problem is over time long solder tails have pierced the 1mm membrane protection to the outer casing and the units blow... Newer models (my new ones!) have shortened tails and a thicker lattice membrane.... Clearly a manufacturing issue as also had them both independently verified by another repair centre... Unhappy customer.....
CMS Author MikeRivers Posted June 4, 2014 CMS Author Share Posted June 4, 2014 Long solder "whiskers" is one of the consequences of using lead free solder. It takes most manufacturers a couple of years of failures in order to catch on and assure that their mechanical design accommodates this. They nearly all learn the hard way.
