After 2 volumes focused on North Indian instruments, Swar Systems has gone south to bring composers a collection of instruments and loops from the abode of the carnatic tradition. These new sounds are for use with the SwarPlug virtual instrument.

    Featured instruments are:

    • Mridangam
    • Kappi Mridangam
    • Ghatam
    • Kanjeera
    • Morsing
    • Veena
    • Nadaswaram
    • Tavil
    • Tamte
    • Udukke
    • Dollu
    • Chende
    • Ghat Singhari
    • Konnakol

All these instruments come with a collection of groovy rhythmic/melodic loops.

Swar Systems has also updated the SwarPlug plug-in which is used to play these new sounds, as well as the previously released two volumes of North Indian instruments. SwarPlug is now available in Audio Unit format, based on the CronoX 2 sampler, in addition to VSTi format. More controls have been added to the user interface as well, including envelope sliders and dual pitch knobs (for tuning drums with two sides). The SwarPlug update is free to registered users.

SwarPlug also comes with thousands of MIDI rhythms and melodies from the Indian subcontinent and Librarian software to browse them.

SwarPlug with the Volume Sound 1 sound set for Mac or Windows costs $170. Upgrades for existing SwarPlug users that wish to add the South Indian sound to their library are available for $30.
