Line 6 announced PODxt, its newest and most advanced direct recording device that borrows some of it's modeling technology from Line 6's Vetta line. The new PODxt is the next generation recording solution that combines a DSP platform with new amplifier models, cabinet models, and classic models of stompbox and studio effects, and includes a USB port for transfer of audio to and from a computer.

PODxt features 32 new amplifier models, 22 cab models and several microphone models for home and studio recording, live performances via a direct feed to the PA, and front-end tone shaping for use with amplifiers. The new amplifier models include some of the most classic and boutique amps played by world-renowned artists.

PODxt also delivers more than 45 models of stompbox and studio effects. Aside from an extensive collection of reverb choices, it includes some of the most popular distortion, compressor, chorus, flanger, rotary and delay effect models ever available.

"Line 6 initiated the digital modeling revolution in recording with POD, it has since been the "industry standard" for award-winning recording professionals everywhere," said Marcus Ryle, co-founder and vice president, product development, Line 6. "We are thrilled to present the newest member of the Line 6 family, PODxt, to provide guitarists and engineers with the recording solution that goes far beyond any tone quality ever available."

PODxt is compatible with Line 6's FBV and FBV Shortboard, providing access to 64 presets via hands-free channel switches, large backlit name display, dedicated stomp box on/off switches, combination wah/volume pedal, tap tempo switch, and expression pedal input, among other features.

PODxt also provides convenient "Digital In/Out" recording via USB into third-party applications. Drivers for both Mac and Windows will be available, allowing you to capture audio from PODxt as well as play back audio through PODxt like a standard audio interface.

Line 6 will be releasing a software librarian/editor for PODxt sometime in next year which will be able to import POD 2.0 patches. PODxt represents a major technological change over earlier PODs so upgrades to PODxt will not be possible. However PODxt itself has been designed to accept future software upgrades.

PODxt is scheduled to start shipping on October 15, with an expected street price around $399.
