  • CharterOak Announces Extension On ADAPT™ Modifications To One Year

    By Guest |

CharterOak Acoustic Devices will announce at San Francisco AES their intention to expand the time limit on free ADAPT™ modifications on SA538 and SA538B models, up to one (1) year after the purchase date.

In the one year that has passed since CharterOak initiated ADAPT™, the create-your-own classic modification program for the SA538 and SA538B vacuum tube condenser microphones, CharterOak has learned many engineers and producers buying microphones don't do sessions every day. As a result, 30 days is too short a period of time to live with the microphone in session, and come up with substantive feedback on how a user might want to alter the timbre of their microphone. "The program was originally designed based on my recording schedule, which averages about 300 days a year, and it has come to our attention that this might not be the typical situation for a lot of our end users," remarked Michael Deming, producer, engineer, and president of CharterOak.

"We also think that if a person is made aware of the ADAPT™ program and its benefits, the fact that we pay for shipping and labor, and that we are doing all of this, in the interest of making this microphone fit perfectly into the end users existing collection, that the end user will be more inspired to listen closer and to experiment," continues Deming.

CharterOak has found most users don't want to alter the performance of the microphone at all. However, CharterOak has had great success with the 10% of customers who've used ADAPT™ to modify the timbre of their microphone, and believe that it would be a very positive thing if more people were inspired to experiment, as the whole process helps CharterOak build closer personal relationships with the customer which will last for years.
