Audio Ease has released Altiverb 3.0, a major update to their multiple award winning reverb plug-in. The free upgrade includes an all new Audio Unit version for E-magic Logic Audio, as well as OS X versions of the HTDM, RTAS, VST and MAS Altiverbs.

Performance has been increased, mono input acoustic samples (impulse responses) are now available in stereo input Altiverb plug-ins, and VR (immersive) movies can be displayed and are included in many of the impulse response downloads.

Altiverb is a sampled acoustics processor that offers one-, two- and four-channel sampled acoustics of real halls, cathedrals, bathrooms -- and virtually any acoustic environment. Altiverb takes full advantage of Altivec, the 'Velocity Engine' found in Apple Power Macintosh G4 computers. Included in the release are dozens of presets ranging from the Amsterdam Concertgebouw to the back of a Ford Transit van, all of these can browsed online and downloaded from www.audioease.com/ir .

New in this upgrade is a major streamlining of the acoustics sampling process. It is now much easier to make impulse responses of your own, for use in music and post. A sine wave sweep CD can be played back from a boombox and recorded with microphones in a room (in film shoots it is ideal to have the production sound recordist record the sweeps, so that the result will match production sound). The sweep recordings are dropped on the simplified "Altiverb IR Pre processor" application and are turned into Altiverb impulse responses. In the process equalization curves for the characteristics of the boombox are applied to the recordings. Taking an acoustic snapshot on a film set can be done in 20 seconds, at unoffending playback levels, and the result can be a solution to ADR and foley matching problems.

Altiverb and its downloadable demos are available from www.audioease.com. The Audio Ease on-line store price is US$495.00 for the MAS-VST-RTAS-Audio Unit bundle. The HTDM-RTAS-MAS-VST-Audio Unit Bundle costs US$795.00
