Members Menthal
Got it this week, wasn't impressed at all with the overdriven sounds. But I didn't really care since it was bought as a modification project. I removed the whole preamp and put in one of my little test preamps. There are a few things that I have not added yet like EQ and other minor tweaks. The bass is a bit overwhelming but I'll have to see what happens when the EQ is in place first before I cut anything out. http://www.tonefinder.com/index.php?section=id&value=12101 http://www.tonefinder.com/index.php?section=id&value=12104 (gain switch engaged and double tracked) I'm very happy with how this little amp turned out. It doesn't sound small at all to me.

And the tubes are shit, combo or head, what cab/speakers? A lot of things factor in to how you get this amp to sound. If you did spend a lot of time with the above suggestions and tried different things and still wasn't happy with the Ultra side, well yeah you have a reference as to how you want to mod it. Yeah the amp is mod friendly so have fun with it. I have found ways to dial it in and tried different speakers combos , but haven't replaced ALL the tubes yet:facepalm:

Seems like you was the guy designing it. The Clean "channel" was not bad, but the Ultra was, well not ultra.
