Are these "hip" now?

sure, hip or not, i want one.

the value has gone up the last few years and its been getting harder to get a hold of them. Came across a gibson rd standard in mint condiction last year at a guitar show in philly. played and sounded like a dream, not to mention it looked awesome. didnt have enough cash on me to buy it, made him an offer and he turned it down. ended up selling it later that month. biggest regret ever, been searching ever since

Cool. You are the third person I know of looking for one.

I think they are pretty cool looking but I can't get past that headstock. Good luck!

hate to be the barer of bad news, but if you expect it to play like an LP, its nothing like it... I had an RD Custom for about 2 years and I hardly played it.. the active pickups are way to trebelly... so good choice going for the standard... if you want the LP feel for a real killer, you need the RD 77 (thats the name, not the year, although they were probably made in 1977) which is nearly impossible to find or just get the new silver burst RI and strip it down...

i really suggest you try before you buy!!

don't worry I have. I actually have a Gibson les paul custom and I am done with that tone, need a change. I liked the tone the maple body gave me when I played the standard a year ago and the active models give me no appeal at all, so i am sticking to the standard. been calling/emailing guitar stores across the country as well as in other countries to find this {censored}er haha.

Not sure where you're located but I ran across this listing earlier today.

yea saw that as well, im in the phily/jersey area, nice guitar for a solid price. Would probably do it but i really want the standard with the passive pickups, maybe in a couple years i'll pick up the artist but for now im staying passive.
