But isn't it just as easy as playing a CD, no insult intended. LOL.

I don't quite get Djing yet other than putting on a record/cd/etc to let everyone else listen to tracks. Is there more to it though? What would be a good starting point? Any videos to watch? I'd prefer something cheap where I could actually get a feel of what it's all about? Below is a $70 Vestax turntable, not sure if that's a good starting point? I'd prefer to spin CDs than LPs though. This Vestax product is USB so does that mean I could only play stuff on my laptop and not CDs? I won't be DJing hip hop so I'm not doing all that scratching. I'm interested in EDM.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Vestax-S...?source=4XBACR

are the Numark IDJ series a good start? I see a few used ones that start at $40.

To get to the bottom of this. What is a DJ turntable? My take on it is that since it has 2 slots for a record/CD to play on, that means I can play simultaneously without having to take out to put another one on, etc. My other take on what a turntable is, is that you can pull the disk out faster than a standard CD player so you can replace a disk while the other is playing. Am I getting this right?

I haven't adjusted yet to DJ culture because I came from a rock background. So when someone says DJ ___ is playing at such club, my first thought is "playing" what, you mean "spinning" or playing other people's tunes, via disk? In rock, playing means you are actually playing real instruments to reproduce what was a recorded song. DJing means you are playing a pre-recorded song. Is this about accurate?

But I am showing interest in DJing, I just don't want to spend too much and end up getting bored with it.

The History of DJ Equipment

The art of DJing has come a very long way since its humble beginning in the 1950s. At that time, radio stations were just beginning to play music on the air as a way to break up the talking and it soon became clear that the disc jockey would need some specialized equipment.

As the musical element of broadcasts became more popular with listeners, DJs needed more advanced equipment to allow one musical element to transition smoothly into another. Over the next few years, the technology quickly advanced, producing a completely new genre of musical expression.

The following is a short history of the evolution of modern DJ equipment.

1877: Thomas Edison invents the phonograph. This could both record and play audio and was hailed as one of the greatest modern inventions of the time. Patented as the gramophone, this became its generic name over time. By the 1940s, however, the most common name for this type of turntable was the record player.

1964-1965: The World’s Fair in New York sees the debut of the world’s first stereophonic disco system which used two-channel sound and represented a huge advance in the musical experience for listeners.

1970: This year saw a major breakthrough for DJs and added a new dimension to the listening experience. Having looked at the sound systems used on Broadway, David Mancuso and Alex Ratner started to use similar systems at their infamous after-hours parties at “The Loft.” They used separate tweeter arrays and subwoofers which made the sound crisp and defined. This not only added to the party-goers’ experience but also provided a leap forward in DJ culture.

1971: Alex Rosner designs the first DJ mixer. The mixer, that Rosner called Rosie, was developed specifically for the Haven Club and gave the DJ the ability to mix two turntables for the first time. The mixer had a microphone input and a headphone output, all controllable by the DJ.

1974: Joseph Saddler develops a new way of cutting and mixing records. Better known as Grandmaster Flash, Saddler invents the “Quick Mix Theory,” which allows for the continual use of the same beat by cutting between two identical tracks on the turntable.

1975: “Scratching” is invented by Grand Wizzard Theodore. This took DJing to the next level, especially for party-goers. Using this technique, the discs could be manipulated and used to create new and original music.

1977: The advent of transition control. With no sound coming through the speaker I can hear a fuzzy that is faint but audible enough. Some of it may be cable interference but after while it goes away. The potential sale comes a month after the streaming service raised $100 million in a funding round led by a $70 million investment from Twitter, and four months after the launch of its new paid subscription service, SoundCloud Go. The story was first reported by Bloomberg. It's been a big year for the German company -- in addition to its foray into the paid streaming market, it finally signed a deal with major label holdout Sony Music Entertainment, the final piece in its catalog puzzle following prior agreements with Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Merlin. That paved the way for Go's rollout, which will help legitimize the service moving forward for its 175 million users, many of which come from the dance music and DJ communities. Go should help SoundCloud financially, provided it can actually convert its freemium users into paid subscribers. Earlier this year, the company released its financials from 2014 which showed a service growing rapidly and burning through piles of cash, spending $63.8 million to generate $19.7 million in revenue. Since then, SoundCloud raised $77 million in funding in 2015, as well as the $100 million funding round in June which valued the company at $700 million, according to Bloomberg.

However, one source doubts that SoundCloud will be able to find a buyer at its $1 billion asking price, or whether the company would actually go through with a sale at all, suggesting that the $1 billion number is more about gauging the market's valuation of the company rather than any concrete plans. One concern from investors is the subscription service's conversion rate, which an insider estimates has only brought subscribers in the "tens of thousands" over its first four months; by comparison, Spotify has said its conversion rate hovers between 25-30 percent. Six months after their respective launches, Apple Music and Tidal had attracted 10 million and one million subscribers (though Tidal started with around 500,000 at the time of its March 2015 U.S. re-launch.) Reps for SoundCloud declined to comment.

Whats a good beginners setup for scratching/mixing?

im not looking to break the bank here - looking for some reliable turntable(s), mixer, sampler.

Also - if you dj, howd you learn?

:poke:

Roland's Live Streaming Product Release starts 4:00 UT... It is thought acts like Disclosure and Years & Years along with heritage artists like The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers are responsible for the trend. As well as sales, the survey shows general habits of dance fans. The research from January to October 2015 shows that UK acts now account for half of all dance music (albums, singles and streams) consumed in the UK for those 10 months. Radio 1 has just added some new names to its Residency dance music programmes such as producers Steve Angello, Oliver Heldens, Nina Kraviz, Dub Phizix & Strategy and Kode9 that are joining the team. The BPI says that house and garage music combined accounted for almost half (48%) of digital and physical singles sold in the first 10 months of 2015.

Mainstream dance music accounted for 38% of sales, drum & bass 5.7%, electronica 3.2%, rave/hard dance 2% and trance 1.5%. It is thought the sales of house music are reinforced by the recent chart success of David Zowie, Karen Harding and Philip George, who have all had hits this year. Streaming dance music is confirmed by new survey data from AudienceNet, which shows that seven in 10 fans are using Spotify, Deezer and Google Play to discover tracks. Major Lazer's Lean On has just been named the most streamed track of all time on Spotify, while one of the electronic group's founding members, Diplo, has just been announced as the most Shazamed artist of 2015.

New Trap Mix I created for my 25th birthday!

I would love to listen to your music and give feedback also!

Cuba's EDM Scene? Describing itself a “non-profit festival connecting Afro-Cuban Folkloric music with the pioneers of the International Electronic music community”, the MANANA Festival has raised almost £13,000 on Crowdfunding platform Kickstarter out of its £40,000 goal so far. Scheduled to take place May 4-6, 2016 provided it raises enough capital, the festival itself has already been approved by the Cuban government and a select few artists from both Cuba and abroad have already signed on to the project. In addition to festival usuals, like music of course, MANANA will also be working with artists and technology partners to deliver a program of music workshops, seminars and talks that will run over the three days. International tickets will also be capped at 500 so if you’re down for the cause and ready for a quick trip to the Caribbean you better grab those as soon as you can.

It's Official: David Guetta is the World's Most Sampled Artist

Interesting article, particularly for the info about Dubset: http://dancemusicnw.com/david-guetta-worlds-most-sampled-artist-dubset/

New Album from Avicii Uses Interactive Game for Marketing

From the newswire:

It’s not often that an EDM artist is setting new trends when it comes to innovative marketing for major music releases, but then again, it isn’t often that Avicii releases an album.

i would like to connect the Boss DD7 Digital Delay or the Behringer DD400 Delay Pedal to my mixer.

Unfortunally my mixer doesnt have send/return holes. Also, as i saw from many pics, the pedals have different holes for cables and not RCA.

Also, i was wondering if is possible to use cable converters in order to connect everything.

My mixer`s interface is this: http://www.123dj.com/mixers/pioneer/djmt1back.jpg
