LP is "long play", meaning an entire album.

EP is "extended play", as opposed to a single.

The idea of long/extended is confusing.

Basically, a single is 1 or 2 songs (generally an A side and a b-side). An EP is an "extended" single, with a few more songs... usually 3 to 6 (ie: more than a single, but not quite an album - and usually marketed similarly to a single). An LP is your standard full length album.

For the rest, seriously, just Wikipedia this {censored}. The internets are miraculous things if you use them.
