Members fuzzy4dice
I'm sorry, but I can't stand freakin' MySpace. I thought it was a great idea, and in theory it is, but I can't take it anymore. If anyone directs me to that page to hear their band one more time...and I go...and MySpace freezes...and nothing happens...and the pictures don't come up...and then some stupid message that someone left with a waving Tinkerbell gets jammed...and someone else left an audio comment and it's playing fart noises...and the music never plays and I can't do anything and my browser freezes... I am going to really get mad. I think, in theory, MySpace is a great idea, if it ran smoothly and consistently. I don't think it's a good "web-site" for bands to have, I think it's good to cash in on the flavor of the month aspect of it. In this case: you get what you pay for! It's so cheesy too! Every moron in the world has a page and they all say the same thing. "I like don't know what to write here about myself, so whatever". I can't wait until something comes along and KILLS MySpace! I HATE it! So, go to my MySpace page below...

Members Kingnome
Myspace is already dead. Serious about your music? Think myspace.com shows that? Be a man. Get a website. (In that order.)

Moderators daddymack Posted May 19, 2006 Moderators Share Posted May 19, 2006 you realize that the same people who control myspace also own AOL, right?what did you expect? It is the typical lowest common denominator, dumbed down for the lunkhead patrol approach...so any dimwit with an ISP can upload whatever junk they want in there, with practically no limits, and virtually no control...should be called wastespace... And this is where you're wrong, AOL is owned by Time-Warner, Myspace is owned by Newscorp...Tom made out like a mother{censored}er on that deal, though, $40 million dollars or something ridiculous. Members kurdy
I agree that Myspace probably isn't going to be around forever. The main reason it does so well is that everybody is on it. I can't speak for everyone else, but I'd probably go to a band's Myspace page first before I'd visit their website. Myspace's strength is its convenience, in that everyone's page is basically set up the same. It's easy for someone to navigate their way around and find where everything is. The same can't be said for a band's website, as every one of them is set up differently. Although, I agree that a Myspace page shouldn't serve as a band's replacement for having an actual website. If anything it serves as a good way for more people to find out about a band in the first place. My big gripe with Myspace is that they make your music sound like crap. It isn't much of an issue if you're MP3s have been mastered by a professional engineer, but otherwise, what Myspace's processors do to the sound is horrible. But I guess you get what you pay for. But anyway, when Myspace eventually sinks back into obscurity, something else will come along and take its place. And eventually we'll all be complaining about it too. Billboard Magazine, in a recent article, mentioned "You Tube" as a site that's starting to take off, as well as a site called "Tagworld" or something. Time will tell whether or not these will reach the same level of popularity as Myspace has.
Members fuzzy4dice
I agree with the convienence of the site, however...if the damn thing keeps freezing and crashing and refusing to play songs and buffering all the time... Then I ask you, good sir: Where Is The Convienience?

Members ThirteenthStep
like people say, it's a great musical map of sorts. All the bands can just plug themselves in a certain genre and a listener can easily locate and immediately stream samples, and hop between pages quickly. A couple of server problems do not negate these advantages.
Members fuzzy4dice
^^^^^^ The key inaccuracies in your statement are that myspace is not: Easy to search, the music samples do not often stream immediately, and I usually cannot hop between pages quickly without all the miscellaneous crap cloggingup my connection. Aint that the truth; just look at your search options for bands: Band Name Sounds Like Influences Band Members Band Bio So after about 1/2 hour of trying to find bands just in my area, since I wasnt able to put in one of the above criteria I came up with nothing. Boy, that's useful. There is a way to search locally, but it's a PITA! Further, the sub-catergories are like so idiosyncratic that's it's useless. "GRINDCORE" Or "Happy Jungle Hardcore". How about: Rock, Folk, Metal, Dance, Rap, Jazz, Classical?
Members HarpNinja
I can never successfully search for anything on Myspace. I think it is a fad, and will evenutally wain in popularity. The most it has done for me is let me meet some cool bands out of the area. Unless, as a musician, you sit on your computer, lie about a bunch of stuff and invite everybody you can to be your "friend", it isn't very efficient for generating much. I know a guy on there who just brags about himself on his page and it is almost all made up. I don't think anybody buys into it, but he sits around and adds as many 20-something chicks as possible. Then he posts bulletins saying he never spams for friends (which is b.s.)....I am going to stop here since you can see that I have a strong bias as the result of a knuckle head (but if he's so great, why hasn't the real world...or local world...noticed?). I was hoping it would help with fanbase, and it has, but since it is so hard to seach the pages, it is very slow going. All in all, myspace makes me feel dirty when I use it and it is 99% b.s. for 1% cool stuff. But I am thankful for that 1%.

I created a throw away account for kicks, never talked to anyone or let anyone know I had it, and within a day or two I had no less than 10 (!) spams and friend invites.
