Members Mike67
After a month of trying to come up with a good band name, I am at my wits end. Does anybody have a suggestions for a blues band made of of twenty-somethings? Our sound would be close to the Fabulous Thunderbirds or Robben Ford, and we want a name that isn't too "blues" so we can avoid some stereotyping at venues that don't normally have blues bands. Thanks for any advice.

Have you considered using song titles? Song titles are not copyrighted. I was in a band years ago, playing a lot of Little Feat stuff, and we called the band "Sailin' Shoes" after one of their songs (and album title). Robben Ford has a song called "Talk To Your Daughter" which might be cool, or "Nothing to Nobody" (which is a very cool song), and an album called "Tiger Walk"... Just a thought. Members Scheming Demon
I wish I could help. Back in 1998 we tried to figure out a name for my original progressive metal band. We went through a million names. At least one person would go, that sounds to 80's, or no that won't work. Than we came up with some really outlandish names. We did a band name search and every single name we came up with, there was already at least one other band, sometimes more with the same name. We came up with wild ideas like Zephyrus, which means a cold wind or is a Greek God of wind or something, thinking that name couldn't possibly be in use, since I never even heard the name previously. Well guess what, it was in use. Finally someone came up with the name Exhibition after the classical piece, Pictures at an Exhibition. We thought no way that name is available and low and behold it was and that became our band name. For a cover band, it is easier, for a tribute band it is much easier to come up with a name. Maybe try to decide first, what style of name you'd be happy with. Something comical, something serious, something that conveys a particular thought, a one word name or a phrase. Members J6P
Boy Wonder has been/is being used here in Boston. Great band too. I can usually do this pretty easy, but am coming up kinda dry, for a blues band. Non-blues band Names off the top of my head? Dead Edsel I see you're in Minnesota. So... Thin Mississippi White Out SwedeNotSwede City Twin The Flying Hennepins(that one is lame huh.) Hennepin Down Laker Drowning I dunno.....

What did you use to do that search? One way is search under "Popular Music" on Amazon.com. I made a separate post on this, but what happens when a band puts out a major release with a name that's been taken (even if the band is defunct) As an example consider the Aussie band "Jet" ...there was alread a band with that name in the 70's (found on Amazon)
Members MDLMUSIC
I like the song title as band name idea. If you're into the Fabulous Thunderbirds, then why not call yourselves "Tough Enough" or, better yet, "Tuff Enuff"? That way you've got a built -in theme song to begin and end your shows.
