Has anyone ever attended David's conference? it looks interesting... too bad it's too late for me to attend. I'm quite disillusioned with SXSW. I must admit that I both admire and am skeptical of the "hard sell" language on the web site. "making a killin in the music business" seems more like a major label mantra than an indie band motto... but I get the point. Bands need money to stay alive and he's not mincing words about it. Members spinman
I've been in this town for 4 years and I can tell you there's no magic tricks to success. Still, the guy has a good line up of speakers. I've seen some of Tom Jackson's seminars before and they're really great; totally changed my band's outlook. Other than that I can't vouch for the guy. I imagine, looking at the lineup of speakers, you'd come away from this conference with a lot of information, and a lot better prepared to make it, but he talks like you're virtually guaranteed to be a success if you go and take it all to heart. There are no guarantees. I mean, I've got friends who are doing this music biz thing by-the-stinkin-book, and they still aren't making it.
Members DanteRTS
Our band, Return to Self, played on Saturday night for one of the 2nmc showcases. ZERO people from the conference attended. The entire evening. I'm curious as to how the daytime seminars faired. And, other than the RAGE, I didn't hear much about it promotion wise.
