Ummm, i know nothing but the obvious, for electric guitars. Learn woodworking. Build some kit guitars to understand how to put them together. Then build guitars and sell them at a price appropriate. You could perhaps work as a guitar tech while doing this. Eventually you should be able to take and fulfill orders at will :)

There are a number of books available on guitar construction and repair that would probably be valuable in your learning process. The woodworking idea is a good one, as is working as a tech. Kits are a good place to start, and there are several good ones for both electric and acoustic guitars. In particular, try to get hold of Martin's catalog for the 1891 shop, or something like that (can't recall off the top of my head what they call it, but they sell everything from luthier tools and complete kits, to outstanding wood supplies, many available either precut and shaped or raw).

There are several other companies that offer similar products, but Martin's is the only one I can remember off the top of my head that sells the raw wood supplies, including all sorts of exotic stuff. Do a few searches in Google or some other such search engine for Luthiers, guitar making, guitar repair, etc. There's an abundance of info, if you look hard enough.

Its hard to get work in it (in this country).

I spend most of my time freelancing. If I go full on Ltd, i get taxed to buggery, and if I stay underground, nobody knows me.

England sucks for this work, but theres some good money in the freelance circuit, provided mr tax man doesnt find out ;')

Fred,

a person who is not satannica at all in any way shape or form - he is not satannica, he's a stranger, he's, like... some foreigner!
