roland Fantom-X7 76-Key Sampling Workstation

Sound Quality

one off of perfect!

The mic in has a low quality, not good enough to record instruments through; and although on Roland video's you can see someone recording a bass through it, the quality is deteriorated.

It is barely good enough for words or vocal, definitely not a professional solution to record anything.

The best thing you can do is get your recording gear, record whatever you need and convert it to digital audio, and load it up via the expresscardslot.

Some expresscardslots read SD cards, so you can expand the memory with a reasonable cheap SD card and an expresscardslot, but this is not the way things are supposed to go!

You would expect they would have a better quality mic in!

Also another issue is with the operating system. In all I had to update the firmware 6 times until I finally got version 2.10, after which Roland stopped releasing firmwares!

The piano's and samples used from Roland are the best, very professional, and sound perfect by themselves; but unlike eg: korg, you can not mix and match samples very easily!

Although it works perfectly, the aluminum front has corroded somewhat, and has many bumps and scratches over the years of flightcase abuse.

It still looks nice, but it certainly does not look new anymore; and lost it's new shine.

General Comments

Their samples included are very good, and the keyboard should deserve a 10, if it wheren't for the issues mentioned above (bad mic in, slow audio processing).

Another issue is that the expansion cards are pretty expensive, especially if you only plan on using one or two samples on every card!

One samplecard I've been dying to get is the expanded piano, but it was sold out before I could lay my hands on it, and later came back even more expensive as before.

Roland could and should cut the price of these cards by now, at least by 1/2 or 2/3th!
