Members ido1957
Work Laptop - use it for everything personal including music Musically, I had everything up to Sunday backed up. So if they can't recover the files I've lost Grace's last harmony. Got a loaner laptop so: Grace - can you hold those last two files for a bit? When I get mine back/new one I'll spend a few days reinstalling things. And Grace your PM box is full - they must have reduced the limit on V4B cause I got the first "full" notice myself the other day. Damn - first hard drive to crash but Sonar was acting funky this week so maybe that was an indication.:mad:
Members ido1957
Plus it snowed all today and tonight. Probably 6 inches and 2 foot drifts. Spend 2 hours snowblowing and shovelling - still snowing so more shovelling tomorrow morning before work. My back hurts!

My buddy at work has a dock that will USB slave the drive which he's bringing in Friday - so hopefully one of these will work. I got a lot of crap I don't want to lose.... The apps are lost though so they'l need reinstalls.
Members grace_slick
Oh dammit!!! My mailbox never allows me to keep more than like, 20 msgs in it at any one time! SO annoying!! I've still got the links to those files I sent ya in my sent items, so no worries. So sorry your laptop crashed, man!! That sucks!
Members DeadNight Warrior
You should be able to keep 50 messages at a time, but that includes items in your sent box. So remember to clear that out every now and again to make room in your inbox.
Members grace_slick
Actually I think that's right. I always forget to clear out the sent items. I've done that now (except for the sent msg to Ido with the harmony tracks I did on it), so good to go again. lol
Members YeahDoIt
I use a USB external hard drive to back up my files. Works OK, cost about USA $ 80 for 180 GB storage.
Members Masklin
To avoid back pain when shoveling, bend your knees and make sure your back is curved like when you rise in the morning and stretch.
Members ido1957
Techie confirmed I will be getting a new laptop. Asks me to come by and sign in so he can configure the unit. Turns it on and the screen is split in two right down the middle (duplicate screen images). Ooops - better ask the Sevice Depot what kind of "refurbishing" they are doing. He's still trying to figure out some way to recover the files off the drive.
Members ido1957
And I shovelled again for an hour this morning. Looks like sunny skies for the next four days!
Members grace_slick
Meh. It’s been raining here for days and there’re floods everywhere. Luckily our specific area is fine though, just a bit soggy. We’ve got an external HDD but haven’t updated it for a year. *dumb* lol
Members Chester_Hoss
since im poor I save all music data in file folders with printouts. I'd still have to redownload the songs/albums if I accidentally destroy the registry again, but at least I wont contemplate suicide. As a side note, I've never seen a pc hard drive fry itself- only on laptops.
Members grace_slick
Well, a few years ago (before we got the music stuff set up), our PC died. It just refused to work. They took it away and said it was beyond repair, but we could get the stuff off it if we wanted…but we didn’t really care, so left it. We’ve still got the PC in case we ever do want stuff off it (just a HEAP of old emails and stuff)
Members ido1957
Bought a little USB docking unit and got the HDD from the laptop sitting in it. Got a free program called EASEUS. It ran all night and says it can find 500,000 files (so far). Internet really slows it down. Last night when running it the program said 49 hours to go. This morning it said 39 minutes to go. Now I'm surfing 39 minutes has turned into two hours. I don't need everything off the HDD but some work related stuff and photos and music and Grace's Backup Sonar project. I'm going to pay the full fee and see what I can recover. I could get by and forget it but as a geek I like to play around with this stuff once in a while to see if I can "beat it". Frgmanted files may be my downfall though....
