Members grace_slick
I ordered this book from Amazon a while ago and it arrived yesterday, called Strengthen Your Singing Voice by Sabine someone. Or is it someone Sabine? Meh, anyway, I read it all (wasn’t overly long), and hmm. Basically it’s about how to sing how I think I want to be able to…strong, belt-y, etc. Not always soft and blah like I do. I wasn’t hugely impressed by it, but I’m gonna do the online exercises (when I’m alone at home next week) and see how it goes. A big thing about it is you need to always tighten your stomach muscles when you want to sing like this…and I kind of remembered something I always said that was when I’m tickled I am SO loud when I cry out and yelp and stuff…and my muscles are always tight in my stomach at that time…and I wondered why I couldn’t get the same effortless volume when singing / talking / shouting normally. Hmm. Something to think about. Maybe. Maybe not. Lol.

Members DukeOfBoom
i will tell you something. the deeper I get into this singing stuff, the more I realize that the voice is just as much as instrument as my guitar is. this is both a blessing and a curse. it's a blessing because it means that over time you can develop a good voice with good pitch and all that. it's a curse because it's not simple like talking is. it's {censored}ing hard and demands a lot of concentration and thinking and practice. Members grace_slick
I find 80% of what I do in terms of singing easy and enjoyable. I'm so lazy, if it wasn't, I wouldn't do it! lol But that other 20% of what I can do, I find harder. And then there's the stuff I actually CAN'T do, which is where the real effort lies. Members grace_slick
See, I get that. I understand it makes it difficult having to always think about these things. But the reason I don't find singing so hard is cause I DON'T think about these things while I'm singing!! I read about 'em (though I only started learning last year even though I've been singing since I was 12), take it in, and then if I remember, I'll try and maybe incorporate some of them while actually singing. But usually I don't.
