Members idoubtit
hi all, i picked up one of those radio shack dp-4073 pianos on clearance a few months back and was wondering -how difficult it would be to shorten it from 88 keys to 76 or so. i'm told this is equivalent to the casio previa 100 or 110. it looks like the body/enclosure/shell can be cut and reassembled witou too much difficulty .... but the keybed has a circuitboard that runs the full length of the 88 keys ... also, some of the lower keys perform various functions like transpose so i would leave those .... can i carefully cut through the circuit board etc. and remove some of the keys on the outer ends? is there any trick to this such as soldering jumper wires across some of the circuit traces? anyone tried this? i am an incurable tinkerer and would like to try this to shorten and lighten the board on a budget .... all thoughts appreciated ... thanks! -tony
Members orangefunk
I seem to recall someone did this with a Yamaha P80 and made it into a 54 note or something. If I was to do what you suggest I'd think about making a new case. You might want to look at how the sensors for the keyboard work... if its one large circuit board you might have a problem... or at least be prepared to do a lot of very fine soldering... In short, its not a job for beginners but in my opinion its not impossible... it depends on the cirucits inside. Theres very little inside many modern keyboards... Members idoubtit
thanks for the response orangefunk ... yes, i remember seeing that "shorty" p80 too ... i like hear what that guy has to say about this but as i recall someone here found his picture on the Net and posted it here for us ... they said the guy wanted it to take on business trips ... i've recently seen similar projects too (dual manual electro)... it's true, much of what little circuitry there is is near the center of the keyboard ... there is one long circuit board for the key bed (with sensors for each key) that runs the length of the keys and that appears to e the one tricky part about this .... thanks again-tony
