Members Westsailor
Not sure if this belongs here but here goes... I picked up an Alesis SR-16 drum machine and there are no (snare) brush voices. There is a brush 'hit' but no 'swoosh' to precede it. Not good when I'm wanting to put together a 'smokey jazz club' groove. Has anyone figured out a way to at least mimic a brush voice on the SR-16? Members WhinyLittleRunt
I use an SR-16 and it sucks for anything dynamic. There's velocity sensing which is the only thing I could imagine may give you a more realistic brush sound, but probably not the way you're wanting it to come out. The drumsets are all outdated, but it still serves its purpose to practice to. Do you have a keyboard with GM midi drumkits? Usually the drum kits have a brush hit and a swish with it. Members Westsailor
That's what's got me puzzled... there is a brush hit, but no swish. that made me think there might be another drum voice onboard that is used for the 'swish'. Any ideas? I hope they didn't replace the brush hit with the 'hip-hop/rap' voices that mines has. Yep, right now we're using the keyboard for anything calling for brushes but the groove is 'hard coded', can't be changed. I'd rather put my own pattern/groove together anyway. Members Paolo Di Nicolantonio
No "swish/swoosh" samples in the SR-16, but I wouldn't say the drumsets are outdated at all. The SR-16's samples are still very punchy, and with a little bit of programming you can come up with modern-sounding patterns. The Roland R-8 if memory serves, had a card that had pretty good brush samples.
