Jx3p ?

Does anyone own this synth ? How does it compared with other synths in the JX line, Junos and in general ?

I always wondered if this synth is woth getting.

Of course it's worth getting, especially with the PG-200

It's good - I had one. I didn't appreciate it though until way after I got rid of it, but it is very capable and very stable.

I had one briefly (but without the controller). Never was wowed by it, but I always wanted to try one out with the controller. Unfortunately the controllers are extremely expensive. As a side note, in AIR's Moon Safari tour they covered Francis Lai's "Bilitis" theme (or Melissa if you will) and Roger Manning Jr. played the lead to that tune on a JX3p (Brian Kehew told me this). One of my favorite songs (and their rendition was great)...you can still track that song down on various sites (soulseek for instance)...several different concert bootlegs are still around.

I had a JX3P + PG200 alongtime ago, made quite a few cool sounds on it, but to be honest, i never regreted selling it. I always thought the Juno 6 i owned sounded more interesting. The JX3P was particulalry good at strings/pads, but i found i was using (or relying on) the 'magic Roland chorus button' rather alot.

I think the Roland gear you already own would cover the sounds anyway. The JX8P is a much better synthesizer IMO.

i've had a jx-3p for about 20 years, so i'm fond of it and will probably keep it till it dies.

but i got a jx-10 about five years ago and, frankly, it's in a different league from the 3p. it sounds bigger, silkier, just more 'synth' like. you know what i mean.

so don't get too excited about the 3p. but if you can get an 8p or a 10 and they're in good order then just get one.

BTW flatearth I really find the older JX8P mentioned the other day better than the newer one, and will probably will sell the newer.

I wasn't wrong saying that the newer one didn't sound like the JX8P I knew from my first one I had a few years ago.

So you've pretty much concluded that the 2-prong 1985-ish model sounds better, huh? That's the one I had. I'll tell ya what; it was a nice stable synth but the action was horrible. And I'm not one to go connecting a controller to another full synthesizer to get better action. I like it all in one piece (unless it's a module).

Damn GAS - when I got it, no one gave a {censored}. Now that I don't have it, I want it back cuz everyone is talking about them lately. Sheesh - I can't win

The earlier version definately sounds more "analog" (less clear, more dark and fat). That was the one I've been looking for. The newer one is in mint condition but I will sell it.

Why dont you swap the inards from both JXs, ie but the old boards in the newer, better condition JX chasis?

It might be a bit convoluted, but if all the screw/bolt holes are located in the same positions, you could very well pull it off.

I thought about it before, but you know sometimes you only pull one board and some problem starts to rise up. I may only swap the synth board though - although I like the keyboard on the older one better, anyway.
